Giannis Wears Roses on the Soles of His Shoes

Giannis Antetokounmpo's first signature sneaker collection, Nike Zoom Freak 1, includes this edition called "Roses" which was introduced last September as a tribute to his dad Charles who passed away unexpectedly in 2017 at the age of 54. Giannis, for those of you who don't know, plays for the Milwaukee Buck's and was named the NBA's MVP at the end of the 2018/19 season. Born in Athens, Greece, the Bucks selected him as the 15th overall pick in the first round of the 2013 draft. Now, at age 24, he's the first basketball player born and raised outside of the US and only the 22nd basketball player in Nike history to receive a signature sneaker. The "Roses" edition features his dad's three favorite colors, red, white and gold along with roses, his dad's favorite flower. The inscription "I Am My Father's Legacy" is incorporated into the traction pattern on the sneaker's sole. It has been reported that at his father's funeral, Giannis laid a single white rose on his grave to honor him and to express hope for the future. (solemovement.com) Giannis said that the "Roses" edition "represents his quest to have the same impact on others that his father had on him." I have never seen a sneaker with a more beautiful sole. Such a nice tribute to his dad!
